Reviewers are debating whether Apple's iPhone or Verizon's LG Voyager is the best phone. Who is the winner? Reviewers make comparisons between the phones because the major features they both offer are touch interfaces and full Web access. The iPhone offers the most computer-like browser experience and sophisticated touch controls while the Voyager adds a QWERTY keyboard to touch operations and has a less computer-like browser experience. Other features make the debate heat up.
CNET duked out both phones in a prizefight with Voyager knocking out the iPhone in the final round for superior call quality and features. Macahholics stay loyal to their first love, Apple. Then there is question of carriers, and if you are bound to Verizon due to a contract or family plan, Christopher Null at YahooTech says go for Voyager.
Comparti is letting the public vote by features with the meter arrow currently pointing to Voyager. In our Voyager Review of Reviews we found that reviewers liked the Voyager because it had more features than the iPhone, such as a keyboard, speedy 3G data and GPS.
Wireless and Mobile News surveyed users at our local coffee house and found that although emotions run high about which phone is "sexier," we are not at the point where any wireless phone is the device everyone wants it to be. Yes people want full Web browsing, but they also want Wi-Fi, email, calendar syncing, music, GPS, voice commands, style, panache and convenience. And they really want inexpensive unlimited data plans, while many need a keyboard.
And the winner is the consumer because we are in the exciting revolutionary phase of a new frontier in gadgetry, with phone makers wanting to win market share and expand their reach. The LG Voyager and iPhone have raised the bar for all phone makers. The competition is heating up and we all win.
If you are trying to decide between an iPhone and LG Voyager we suggest you figure out first what you need the phone for. Then decide which phone best meets your needs. If you can wait a few months, you will have even more phones and features to choose from. To view links to original iPhone vs LG Voyager comparison articles continue reading.
David Gulley at IPod Addicts after looking at all the features, writes, “While tallying up points for each phone we found a non-winning battle due to the differences in culture of both phones.” Of course, he has an Apple preference culturally and calls the Voyager a “sexy beast like t a very fast Aston Martin DBS” and the iPhone a “sexy lady” like a “Ferrari F430.”
Christopher Null at Yahoo Tech calls the Voyager’s keyboard its secret weapon, notes that 3G access makes up for the lack of Wi-Fi support for the Voyager and concludes, “Whether it’s all worth it is up to you, but I’ll say that if I was shopping for a new Verizon handset today, this is definitely the one I’d snag. No question.”
Eric Benderoff at the Chicago Tribune calls the Voyager a good phone while almost offering the best of the touch/keyboard worlds, while finding that the Voyager is second rate to the iPhone.
CNET takes both phones through a prizefight of 5 rounds for sexiness (i-14 V-11), navigation(i-11 V-13), features(i-9 V-13) video and music quality(i-14 V-12) , and call quality(i-11 V-14) with Voyager winning because “But in the end, it was the LG Voyager’s superior call quality and full feature set that was the iPhone’s demise.”
Comparti has taken every feature of the phones and lets the public vote, with the meter currently pointing towards the iPhone.
Scot Moritz at TheStreet.com wrote, “At this point, Apple’s perch atop the cool phone market will not be threatened by the wayward Voyager.”
