Rural Canadian Oil Tester Racks Up C$85,000 in Wireless Data Charges

Piotr Staniaszek, a 22-year-old oil and gas well
tester in rural northwest Alberta, thought his C$10 a month unlimited
data plan covered using his phone as a modem and downloading big files
to his computer.  It did not and he racked up $85,000 in charges,
which Bell Mobility, a division of Bell Canada reduced to C$3,400 when
his father protested.

There have been a lot mentions in the
media about this story, reminding everyone to be clear on what their
data plan does and does not cover.
