A lawsuit filed in October, accused Facebook of sending unsolicited text messages to out of date/recycled numbers. Plaintiff Lindsey Abrams of Patriot, Ind, said Facebook kept sending her numerous text messages, for which she was charged 10 cents apiece and Facebook got its share of the fee. Her number was previously assigned to a Facebook member.
Facebook because of it vast number of members did not check the validity of the numbers.
The terms of the settlement state that Facebook must update its current practices and simplify the opt-out process for text spam message, and with the help of carriers keep track of recycled phone numbers.Facebook must also pay Abrams's legal fees.
