AT&T Tilt Rated 4 out of 5 by Review of Reviews from Wireless and Mobile News
The
AT&T Tilt is a Windows mobile phone that has received excellent
reviews for its full features including an innovative tilting screen,
QWERTY keyboard, fast 3G data access, GPS, push e-mail, 3-megapixel camera,
and multimedia support for music and video.
It was lauded for working on
networks all over the world and its ability to operate Microsoft
Office applications. A majority of reviewers found that that features worked
well including 3G, GPS, email, and camera. The processor is
fast for most apps but can slow down with BlackBerry push email and
large web pages. Laptop Magazine found
fault with the XM radio and MobiTV.
The AT&T Tilt can be
operated by touch, a stylus or the keyboard which has been called
"roomy." Some of the operating keys are placed where they can be
hit by mistake. As with all smartphones we suggest you try before you
buy to see how you like operating it.
Priced at $299 with a contract
and rebate, the Tilt is a $100 less than the iPhone, it does have the added features of 3G, GPS, voice recogniiton, a keyboard, and multitasking. The Tilt has lots of bells and whistles, you can decide if it has the kind of ringing and whistling you like.
Please note there is an upgrade to the firmware for the AT&T Tilt.
Bonnie Cha at CNET
rated the AT&T Tilt 8.3 out of 10 for its many powerful
features such as the tilting screen, QWERTY keyboard, 3G, GPS,
push e-mail, a 3-megapixel camera, and support for AT&T Music and
Video. The problems noticed about the phone were that it was kind of
sluggish, it had short battery life, poor picture quality, poor speaker
phone and difficulty getting a GPS fix.
Sacha Segan at PCMag called
the AT&T Tilt the "most powerful" AT&T device making it the
leader in the field with support for high speed data all over the
world. He rated it 4 out 5 because the tilting screen "turns the device into the best little mobile media gadget ever."
It did well on benchmark tests for processor speed and Wi-Fi transfers.
It is "the best yet" for most varied email capabilities, with
BlackBerry email push on the slow side and AT&T Xpress mail faster.
The camera worked well but not as well as dedicated camera. "Where the Tilt rules is in combination with other Microsoft products" such as the MS Office applications.
Graham Reed
at Laptop Magazine rated
the AT&T Tilt 3.5 out of 5 for the tilt screen, good
keyboard, fast speed and superior camera. He found the quality of
MobiTV to be poor, had difficulties with the XM radio, called the sound
"lackluster,' and had trouble with some of the softkey buttons. He
concludes, "The Tilt is for those who like
their smart phones packed to the gills with multimedia bells and
whistles and who need the ability to view and edit Office attachments
out of the box."
Matt Hickey at Crunch Gear
wrote that the "AT&T Tilt lacks nothing," but notes that it does
not come with a free GPS application, users have to pay a $9.99 monthly
fee for TeleNav and the processor slowed down on large web pages. He
notes that is a solid, fantastic for enterprise and top-of-the-line.
In a speed comparison test between the iPhone and the AT&T Tilt by Jenn K. Lee at Pocketables found that on the 3G network the AT&T's Tilt loaded web pages considerably faster often twice as fast as the iPhone on the Edge Network.
Comparati in its comparison of ATT&T Tilt vs iPhone notes that the Tilt has voice recognition, a higher resolution camera, multitasking capabilities, and insurance, with users ranking it slightly higher than the iPhone.
A consumer advocacy group claims the AT&T Tilt runs slower than previous HTC model phones due to a problem with the graphical driver. You may want to check for driver upgrades.
