Diabetes Monitoring for Nokia S60 Devices from Sinovo & Red Five

Sinovo, makers of SiDiary, the most popular diabetes monitoring software, and Red Five Labs, providers of Net60, the .NET framework for Symbian mobile phones, announce the upcoming availability of SiDiary for the Nokia S60 3rd edition platform.

SiDiary was written for people suffering from Diabetes by people who are themselves suffering from the disease. By enabling accurate daily monitoring of key health metrics, both the patient and the healthcare professional can make the therapy more effective.

SiDiary was initially written for the Pocket PC and Windows Mobile Smartphone platforms using Microsoft’s .NET Compact Framework. Unfortunately, in Europe & Asia, the majority of Smartphones run the Symbian OS and the Nokia S60 user-interface which are not compatible with .NET applications like SiDiary. Therefore Sinovo was missing the potential to address the single largest Smartphone platform in these territories, unless a full, costly rewrite was undertaken.

By licensing Net60 from Red Five Labs, Sinovo are able to bring their flagship product SiDiary to the S60 market in a matter of days. This should translate into an estimated five to ten times increase in the number of SiDiary users, thus improving the daily life of thousands of people suffering from diabetes.

et60 enables .NET Compact Framework applications to run virtually unchanged on S60 devices. Using C# and Visual Basic .NET in Visual Studio, developers can now use the .NET Compact Framework environment to build applications for Symbian devices.

For Sinovo, this also means a drastic saving on the development costs of a specific S60 version, but also on subsequent maintenance costs: a single version need to be maintained for both Windows Mobile and Symbian platforms.

“We are really glad to have come across Net60”, says Alf Windhorst, Sinovo’s CEO and Founder. “it is enabling us to address the Symbian S60 smartphone market, with very little investment and no risk”.

For Dusan Babich, CEO of Red Five Labs, “The partnership with Sinovo is a perfect example of the added value offered by Net60. We help enrich the S60 platform, with great apps like SiDiary which otherwise would only be available on Windows Mobile.”

Red Five Labs will be exhibiting Net60 alongside Symbian on booth number 4855 at the CTIA Wireless 2008 convention taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Centre, 1-3 April. The team will be available for customer meetings and demonstrations at the convention. If your company would like to arrange an appointment please email your details to info@redfivelabs.com
