Cricket Offers My Backup Service for $2 mo.

Cricket Communications, Inc, a leading provider of unlimited wireless services, has launched an over-the-air contact data backup program called My Backup. Asurion, the leading provider of enhanced services to the wireless industry, is supporting Cricket in this initiative via its Asurion Mobile Applications division.

English and Spanish-language versions of the My Backup handset application and website are available at launch.

“The value of the information stored in one’s mobile phone is priceless, “said Larry Atwell, director of product development for Cricket. “We want our customers to feel safe knowing that even if they lose their wireless device, their contacts can be easily recovered and they can continue on with their lives without any major hiccups.”

Cricket’s My Backup program will initially be launched on more than 20 different phones. Customers may subscribe to My Backup for a fee of only $2 per month, providing protection and peace of mind for only pennies per day.

Cricket’s My Backup service provides the following features and benefits:
- Thee peace of mind of a “set it and forget it” backup. The Cricket-branded wireless handset application allows subscribers to configure automated data backup options, ensuring that data is backed up automatically on a regular basis, relieving subscribers of the burden of remembering to backup in order to keep data safe. Subscribers may also initiate manual backups and determine backup history.
- The easiest way to manage your address book on your phone. My Backup includes an intuitive Cricket-branded web interface that allows Cricket subscribers to easily fill up a phone’s address book with contact information for friends, family, and colleagues. Subscribers can import their contacts from Outlook, Yahoo! or other sources, edit them using the intuitive web interface, and easily sync them over-the-air to the mobile phone.

“Providing peace of mind for customers is our top priority,” said Steve Pretre, vice president and general manager of Asurion Mobile Applications. “By working with Cricket to provide customers an affordable way to protect their valuable contacts, we are ensuring the entire wireless experience is as seamless as we can make it.”

Cricket My Backup runs on Asurion’s next-generation Mobile Solutions Platform (MSP 2.0), which introduces key new features for wireless carriers and subscribers, including address book groups and sharing, shared photo and video albums, a rich web experience, and seamless integration into social networks and photo sharing sites. In addition, MSP 2.0’s carrier-grade standards-based architecture provides carriers with the flexibility they desire and the high performance and reliability they require. The architecture enables Asurion and wireless carriers to customize the application and roll out additional features to their subscribers.

Cricket began offering its contacts-only version of My Backup in all markets on June 9th.
