Here's more information about the new iPhone:
 
It's name is: iPhone 3G - Selling line, "Twice as Fast -Half the Price"

AT&T remains the exclusive U.S. carrier of the new iPhone, which will be available beginning July 11 at a starting price of $199 with a two-year contract. Unlimited data plans for iPhone3G customers will be $30/month while business users will have to pay $45/month.

Current iPhone customers can upgrade to the 3G iPhone by paying $199 for the 8GB or $299 for the 16GB model. They will need a new two-year contract.

Customers who purchased the previous iPhone on or after May 27 and want to swap it out for a new iPhone will be able to do  without any additional chargers.. In order to do so, they must return their 2.5G iPhone.
Yes to SMS
SMS messages appear on your iPhone as an ongoing chat, so it's easy to pick up a conversation where you left off.

3G

File Syncing Service & Enterprise Support
 MobileMe - includes push email, syncing of calendar, contacts and files,  Called  "exchange for the rest of us." Individual price $99 a year, family plan $149 a year.  As we reported earlier the iPhone 3G has VPN and enterprise security features for file transfers, developed with Cisco.
