The drop in price of the Palm Centro may account for its increase of market share from 7.9% at the end of 2007 to 13.4% of the market in Q1 this year. While the iPhone market share went from 26.7% to 19.2%. RIM grew to 44.5% up from 35.1%. These figures are from IDC and mistakenly quoted to be NPD by charts on ArsTechnica.
Tuesday, we received all the figures from IDC which we happily posted including figures from Q1 2007 b.i. before the iPhone.
On Monday we contacted NPD and was sent the following response:
You might be referring to the AP piece about IDC's recent numbers -- Ars Technica
had a glitch and apparently accidentally cited NPD, when they meant IDC. If I'm
mistaken, then please let me know & I'll try to track down what you're
looking for.
From the NPD PR Department:
Yes, I
posted something in the comments section (in case the reporter's reading?), but
haven't had a chance today to look up the guy's email addy. (The bylines don't
link to email, crazily). Will do so shortly... Charles Jade wrote:There is what appears to be bad news for Apple and the iPhone, according to NPD through the Associated Press.
