Lots of people like to ease drop and search Twitter to see what people are Twittering to each other. They want to know what Twitters are from the Twitters with the highest authority, meaning the ones with the most followers. Currently, Twitter search which was based on a startup Summize which Twitter bought in July, only performs a general search.
Although the latest research shows 35% of Twitterers have 10 or fewer followers. Snoopers, I mean researchers want to know what Tweets with the most followers.
After some blog posts and debate, there are now two Twitter search engines that offer authority rank Twitority and Twithority.
Shortly after Loic Le Meur wrote
about the need to search Twitter by the authority of followers in his
blog, Twitority was launched. When he wanted to find what people
Tweeted about the Le Web conference there were 7,000 Tweets he didn't
want to sort through using Twitters basic search function.
Twitority
was inspired by Le Meur's request. In twelve short hours, fuel by
coffee John Wheatley created Twitority. Wheatley wrote Le Meur:
"You can now perform authority based twitter searches at http://twitority.com.
This wasn't an easy task. There are some very real limitations on the
twitter API so we had to hack around it a little bit to find a way to
do this. This obviously isn't an ideal solution but hopefully it will
suffice until twitter implements the feature themselves."
Today, another authority Twitter search service was launched Twithority. Twithority searches farther
back than Twitority and ranks results by rank (highest ranking
users first) and time (most recent first) by the top 10,000 Twitter
users. Twithority link driectly to the Le Meur Blog as well as to the TechCrunch articles covering the "authority" trned.
The following are the top trends on Twitter at 8:00 Pm PST according to Twithority:
Christmas, New Year's Eve, #Gaza, #tcot,Shorty Award, NYE, Xmas, AT&T, Wii, iPhoneIt's interesting to note that Le Meur reports that after, he Tweeted about a problem with Sprint, Sprint customer service contacted him and offered him VIP service. Le Meur has 15,647 followers and has completed 12,012 Twitter posts.
42 Minutes Ago, Le Meur Tweeted:
"I am drinking an Italian wine that I really
like so for the record it is a Villa Antinori 2004 from Toscana and
nothing fancy. Just good."
