Android Market Opens to Paid Apps in Mid-January

Google's Android Market manager Eric Chu emailed registered Android Market developers that paid applications will be coming to some of the Android Market segments by mid-January.

The email also said that European countries will be added to the Android Market this month, while paid applications will arrive later because it takes time set up local online payment solutions.

He invited developers to take advantage of a new country targeting feature that allows them to hand-pick markets for their applications.

Android Market gives 70 percent of revenues to developers and the remaining 30 percent to operators and billing settlement fees without taking anything for itself.

BlackBerry's Application StoreFront is due to open in March and gives 80% to developers.
