Apple his approving third-party mobile web browsing applications for the iPhone. There is a series of new browser apps on the App Store virtual storefront.
Browser applications were considered “duplication of functionality” under restrictions for Apple’s blocking of certain iPhone apps.
The new applications are not new browsers but are all based on the iPhone’s existing Safari.
It appears that rival browsing engines like Opera Mobile or Firefox will earn Apple’s thumbs-up anytime soon.
Some of the new browsers include Edge Browser, that allows no loss of screen real estate to the address or navigation bars; Incognito, with history-free web browsing; WebMate:Tabbed Browser, and Shaking Web, which includes an algorithm for hand-shaking.
