DTV Switch Delayed to June 12, Qualcomm Biggest Loser

On Monday the Senate approved the delay until June for broadcast television’s switch to all-digital services.

TV viewers will now have until June 12 to purchase a digital television or converter box.

The FCC auctioned that wireless spectrum in the 700 MHz block to AT&T, Verizon and Qualcomm. AT&T and Verizon approved of the delay while Qualcomm was not a happy camper.

According to a letter written by Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs to the Senate committee dealing with the delay. The ongressional delay is “unfair, unjust and inappropriate” and wrote that Qualcomm stands to lose “tens of millions of dollars” by delaying the transition to June.
