According to an article by Sascha Segan at PCMag, Acer's smartphone President Aymar de Lencquesaing said he'll be able to push Windows phone prices down to free with contract.
Acer already has partnered with A&T to sell the Acer Aspire netbook computer at Radio Shack with a two-year AT&T contract for $99, plus $60 a month.
De Lencquesaing is quoted, '"We can offer them a mobile data device of any form factor, of any size, to fill their needs....We'll make it a very simple, easy interface ... and these will retail at zero dollars."
He says he has had no trouble getting appointments with carriers. The two most likely to bargain with Acer would be U.S. GSM carriers AT&T and T-Mobile.
Acer announced four new Windows Mobile smartphones at Mobile World Congress:
- ACER M900 - for communications on the go with slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
- ACER F900 - to get the skinny on slim and smart internet.
- ACER X960 - with versatile and functional navigation.
- ACER DX900 - dual SIM smartphone for connectivity and convenience.
Acer is also reportedly developing at least two Google Android-powered phones while U.S. consumers can buy Acer smartphones by the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
