Today, Apple premiered their iPhone OS 3.0. After showing the new features, Apple gave members of the iPhone
Developer Program access to the iPhone OS 3.0 software beta
and an updated Software Development Kit (SDK) with over 1,000
completely new APIs.
Major features added include:
- Cut, copy, and paste.
- Ability to send photos, contacts, audio files, and location via MMS.
- Read and compose email and text messages in landscape.
- Voice memos.
- Syncing of apps and push notifications.
- Users can search email, calendar, and notes.
- Automatic login at Wi-Fi hot spots.
The Safari browser will have a password manager. There will be parental controls for movies, TV shows and App Store content. For developers, they will be able to develop multiple-player games to
be played over Bluetooth. There is the ability to push email messages,
better Google map integration. Other features include the ability to
purchase services from an app and the ability to communicate to
external accessories.
The SDK will allow for turn-by-turn directions.
The new operating system would be available to current
iPhone users at no charge sometime this summer. It will sell for $9.95
to owners of the iPod Touch.
