U2 announced yesterday, that their U2 360° Tour will open at the Nou Camp Stadium in Barcelona on 30th
June and it will be sponsored by BlackBerry.
It is U2'ss first stadium outing
since the Vertigo Tour 05/06 and follows the release of their acclaimed
album, No Line On The Horizon.
"This tour announcement marks the first stage of a relationship and
shared vision between RIM and U2 that we expect will lead to new and
innovative ways to enhance the mobile music experience on the
BlackBerry platform for U2 fans," said U2's manager Paul McGuinness. "We look
forward to sharing more details as the relationship unfolds."
This most likely ends U2's relationship with Apple and the iPod, noted many electronic bloggers. It also marks a marketing win for RIM because the band is popular across many demographics. It could also mean some great free downloads for BlackBerry Storm users. Verizon already offers free Timbaland remixes of the Jonas Brothers and Rihanna only to BlackBerry Storm users.
