BlackBerry's Achilles Heel: Lack of App Memory, Says Boy Genius

quickpull-icon-150x150.jpgBoy Genius' Michael Bettiol, raked RIM over the technical coals due to the fact that BlackBerry smartphones like the Bold and the Storm have "dedicated memory issues."

"...BlackBerrys have a bit of an issue when it comes to dedicated
application memory. This, coupled with the infamous memory leaks that
sadly seem to be oh so prevalent on every BlackBerry model since the
Pearl 8100, make for a device that isn't anywhere near capable of
handing as many apps as competing smartphones."

The more email messages and BlackBerry apps installed on your BlackBerry the less application memory is avaialble. You can not install apps or data on the microSD card.

The BlackBerry Bold has only 128 megabytes of app memory which will fills up quickly.  One way to free up memory is to pull the battery or use an app such as the free "QuickPull."

Bettiol berates RIM and suggest they provide 512 megabytes of applciation memory. He suggest that RIM revamp the BlackBerry OS and spend more money on Research and Development.
