New BlackBerry Storm 2 with Wi-Fi, Coming from Verizon in September...

BB_Storm_Verizon180pix.jpgAt CTIA, a BlackBerry app developer told our editor that the next BlackBerry Storm, the BlackBerry Storm 2 will have Wi-Fi.  We of course did not publish it because, well it was an undocumented rumor.

Two other sources have reported that the BlackBerrry Storm 2 will have Wi-Fi.  SlashGear reported Wi-Fi in the BlackBerry Storm 2 with a September release date from Verizon. Today, Boy Genius confirms the Wi-Fi function and also says that the touchscreen will be improved with much better typing with something called TruePress technology. Boy Genius bets that the new BlackBerry Storm II will have a five megapixel camera.

The Wi-Fi is necessary for video services such as QuickPlay Media that will deliver full length popular television shows via Wi-Fi only to BlackBerry smartphones with Wi-Fi for a monthly service fee of $7.99 @ month for its PrimeTime2Go service. Since the BlackBerry Storm doesn't have Wi-Fi, customers can't get the service.

Some think that because the "BlackBerry Storm" did not receive perfect reviews the name will be changed.  It may be the BlackBerry code named Odin.
