Pre-May Day Release of G1 Android Update 1.5 Today

Adnroidscreenkeyboard.jpgWhile BlackBerry Storm users salivate waiting for their latest update, T-Mobile has begun to push out the Android 1.5 'Cupcake' update to T-Mobile G1 users.

This update features onscreen keyboards, more home screen widgets, video recording, and stereo Bluetooth.

Google Android 1.5 will allow video recording with the built-in camera and playing video in
the MPEG-4 and 3GP formats. Videos can be uploaded to
YouTube, and photos can be uploaded to to Picasa.

Other improvements include faster GPS locating with the
phone, and user interface improvements to  the email client,
web browser, calendar and contacts. Users will also now be able to see the Google Talk status of their contacts in various messaging applications.

Browsing has been improved with an updated webkit and
JavaScript engine.

T-Mobile USA G1 users reported that it's a 44MB OTA download. The rollout is expected to continue throughout May.
