BlackBerry (Storm) Voice App of the Day: Vlingo

vlingoblackberry.gifVlingo Corporation just launched version 3.0 of Vlingo that gives users "hands-free" control of BlackBerry smartphones through voice commands.

By speaking, the last version of Vlingo enabled users to send and reply to emails and text messages, search the
mobile web, dial the phone, look up contacts, and launch built-in
applications. Vlingo 3.0 gives users
an enhanced text-to-speech read-back feature for hands-free
confirmation of what was spoken, the ability to speak action requests
such as "send," and support for wired headsets as well as many
Bluetooth headsets.

Version 3.0 of Vlingo is available now for many corporate
BlackBerry smartphone users with support for the BlackBerryStorm, BlackBerry Bold, BlackBerry Curve  8900 and
BlackBerry Pearl Flip smartphones, making Vlingo available to
more mobile users than ever before. Additionally, the BlackBerry Storm
features a special version of the application, which is optimized for
its touch screen interface.

Vlingo gives BlackBerry smartphone users the ability to power the
most popular features by voice. They can simply press the side
"convenience" key on their handset, which lets them speak commands into
the smartphone. Vlingo 3.0 gives a user's voice the ability to:

  • Send and reply to text messages with users who also have Vlingo.
  • Web search.
  • Dial the phone.
  • Send a "note to self".
  • Facebook & Twitter status updates.
  • Tell A Friend.
  • Optional read-back of the full text or email message that was spoken.
  • Speak action requests such as "send" or "search".
  • Launch native and third-party application.

With Vlingo, users do not need to change how they speak or memorize
a list of commands. They simply say what they want, how they want, and
Vlingo captures the results -- word for word, almost instantaneously.
Offering the most accurate system on the market that gets even better
as more users join the community, Vlingo gives users the ability to
freely mix typing and talking with no limits on what they can say."We introduced Vlingo less than a year ago and already millions of
people are using it. We designed Vlingo to meet the real-time
communications and multimedia needs of BlackBerry users on the go,"
said Dave Grannan, CEO of Vlingo. "With our latest
version, we are excited to give users 'hands-free' control of their
BlackBerry smartphones, simply by using the power of their voice."

BlackBerry smartphone users can get additional voice capabilities,
including the ability to send and reply to text messages and emails to
anyone for a one-time charge of $17.99. Existing users of Vlingo 2.0 can continue to use Vlingo 2.0 at no additional charge.

Wireless and Mobile News is working on getting a special discount code for Vlingo for our users.  We will let you know when and if we are able to do so.
