RIM to Make New Next-Generation BlackBerry Storm

Storm_sideways.jpgRIM will launch a new version of the BlackBerry Storm reports Reuters.  Jim Basillie said that the BlackBerry Storm was "a huge success in terms of sales and adoption."

Balsillie said RIM is working on a "next generation" BlackBerry Storm, as well as other next-generation devices, during  RIM's Capital Markets Day presentation to analysts and
investors. Balsillie said Storm sales remain strong.

The goal of the new smartphones is to break open the "large
and untapped" consumer market for smartphones. More than half
of RIM's 25 million subscribers are non-corporate users.

While consumers adopt new consumer focused BlackBerry smartphones, RIM continues to support enterprise users and made several announcements at WES. There is a new version of BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5.0, new push technology for developers, certifications and alliances with HP.

BlackBerry smartphones are coming more popular in the latest NPD smartphone study, the BlackBerry Curve topped the iPhone for the first quarter of the year, with RIM
taking three of the top five spots. BlackBerry now accounts for nearly 50% of the smartphone market.

BlackBerry coverage now extends to 475 wireless carriers and distribution partners in about 160 countries.
