BlackBerry and RIM seem to be doing well according to their newly released reports.
- RIM added 3.8 million new BlackBerry subscribers in its first quarter.
- RIM posted a 33 percent increase in earnings.
- Co-CEO Jim Balsillie, claimed RIM has 55 per cent of the US smartphone market.
- Four-fifths of RIM's new subscribers in the quarter came from the consumer market where Apple and Palm compete most directly.
Some attribute the gains to the Buy-One-Get-One-Free BlackBerry deal from Verizon that ended recently. Others might contend that free-advertising form President Barack Obama's unwillingness to give up his BaracakBerry could have contributed to sales. Analysts, however, are worried about competition from the new iPhone and Palm Pre.
RIM executives are not worried about the competition, RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie said "We don't really, sort of, fret those kinds of things," during a conference call.
He may say the same thing about Paris Hilton giving up her BlackBerry Bold. Verizon has dropped their prices on many current BlackBerry models and will be offering the new BlackBerry Tour. The BlackBerry Tour is supposed to be the best BlackBerry yet.
