Verizon to Open Java ME App Store

browse_games_phone_thumb.gifVerizon Wireless will open an app store to developers using Java ME, later this year said Verizon's CEO Lowell McAdam at the JavaOne in San Francisco.

Recently, Verizon announced it will support Java, a big changes since it previously supported Qualcomm's BREW for apps. Verizon wants to give third-party developers more open access to Verizon customers.
Verizon will give developers access proprietary information for
application development.

At first the apps will be for smartphonse but may eventually include all types of phones.

Verizon will be publishing
specifications for the app store in late July and most likely will take a cut of the revenues.
