Droid Tips 2Day: How to Get Music & Photos On/Off of Droid Plan A

DroidNotifications Panel.jpgIf you Droidites are new to the Droid universe of open source smartphones, you may be befuddled by the process of getting your photos onto your computer or copying music files onto Droid.  Although, reviewers raved over the Droid by Motorola, they were not pleased with its native syncing capabilities, because an "it ain't no iPod."

We had a little frustration in our meager attempt to copy a photo from Droid onto a PC computer.  Then we realized we could actually read the manual, which was a little confusing but we figured out how to copy music files to Droid, as well as copy photos from the Droid to a computer. Then after we completed the process below, we found out a much easier way to sync files on Droid by Motorola. If you are planning on doing a lot of music and photo transfer we suggest you download and use Motorola Media Link.

There isn't automatic recognition by Windows or Mac of the Droid, as a USB drive.  It has to be mounted.

  • First, make sure that your memory card is in your Droid.
  • Connect your Droid  to your computer using the USB data cable that came with the Droid. (You'll have to disconnect from the charging plug.)
  • Go to Notifications (by touching the status bar at the top of the screen and dragging it down). A list will drop down where there is connected icon. On the update's list you will also see email notifications, as well as update notifications.
  • Touch the "USB connected" notification.
  • Touch Mount.
  • Now you will see the Droid as a device on your
computer. Use standard Windows/Mac functions to copy files between your
    Droid and your computer.

Tip: On your PC your phone will appear under My Computer. For Mac your phone should appear on the desktop.

  • When you are done, go to Notifications and touch Turn off USB storage, then disconnect the data cable from the device.
