Qualcomm introduced a new category of computer/phone devices the smartbook. Based the Qualcomm snapdragon chipset, Qualcomm's CEO Paul Jacob's showed off a smartbook from Lenovo.
The smartbook is about the size of the netbook but is lighter because the Snapdragon chipset, does not require a heat sink or a cooling fan. It also makes for a lower price and longer battery life than what netbooks.
The operating system is Linux and has a widget set. The display supports HD.
Earlier this year, Qualcomm announced that The
new Snapdragon QSD8650A chipset - scheduled for sampling before the
end of 2009 - offers significant performance improvements including a
1.3 GHz processor for 30 percent higher performance as well as enhanced
multimedia and 2D/3D graphics. Utilizing 45nm technology also allows
power consumption improvements such as up to 30 percent lower dynamic
power than previous-generation Snapdragon products and an unmatched
standby power of less than 10 millwatts.
