Users of the Droid Eris by HTC running Android 1.5, will be able to update the Android OS to newer a Android OS in the first quarter 2010, said a Verizon spokesman. The Droid Eris has gotten good reviews but reviewers noted that it did not use the latest Android OS. Buyers of both Droid by Motorola and Droid Eris by HTC can get a free Droid Eris or other phone until Monday, December 7th with a special deal from Verizon.
"The Droid Eris currently using Android 1.5, can and will be upgraded
to newer a Android operating system software in first quarter 2010. The
enhancement will allow customers to continue to enjoy the powerful HTC
Sense experience while also gaining the additional benefits of Google
Maps Navigation."

Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said that, based on the timing, the Droid
Eris will be updated to either Android 2.0 or 2.1.
