Droid Updates 2Day: Verizon Pushes out OTA Update 2.01 for Droid by Motorola

droid_upgrade3.jpgThe Verizon Droid by Motorola Over-the-Air (OTA) update is beaming to Driods in the United States. We received our notification for the Droid system update  around noon Eastern Time  We completed the update process in about 5 minutes without a glitch.

The Droid was turned on with a app window open when we got this notice:

"A system update is ready to Install. Your phone will restart and Install the update. You not be able to make any calls including emergency calls during installation.

Install now, Install later, More info buttons.

After tapping the Install now button a screen appeared that looked like box with arrow into phone symbol for about 2-3 minutes.

Our Droid rebooted and the red eye blinked for about a minute. The opening screen instead of having a round wheel to lock/unlock and sound on/off is now two separate functions with the lock on the left and sound on the right.

The unlocking required a bit more of a grab than before and the sound off required a full drag which suggests that even though the Droid has been well-reviewed, it may have been unlocking or sounding off by mistake, previously.

There has been a  camera problem with the Droid that was helped by cleaning the lens while an auto focus bug was on a
24.5-day cycle.  The camera now works faster and appears to take better photos. The greater improvement was the cleaning of the lens.

The update fixes the auto focus
cycling problem along with other glitches with 3-Way calling, speaker
phone glitches, Bluetooth echos, Bluetooth contact transfer, GPS icon,
SMS/MMS and instant voicemail notifications. Most updaters have noticed overall faster speeds.

The Droid 2.01 system update requires 40% or more power availability if not
connected to an external power source and 20% power availability if
connected to a power source. If you are roaming you will not receive a system update notice. You
will need to enable Wi-Fi and wait for the update notice to appear or
as mentioned above you can manually update by by selecting "Home" > "Menu" > "Settings" > "About phone" > "System updates".
