Ted Estarija gave his son a phone last month and added him to his plan. The plan did not include data for his son who downloaded stuff to his phone. Estarija claims he had asked Verizon to place limits on the son's plan.
Verizon charged him per megabyte. The bill for 1.4 million kilobytes (about 200 songs) was $22,000.
Today Verizon rescinded the bill, after press and consumer pressure. Most often they will only split the differenece.
It's not the highest cell phone bill. Where it really adds up is will mobile broadband on cruise ships. To watch a Bears game a traveler on a cruise ship was billed $28,000. An attorney was billed $5000 for data on netbook and then sued.
