Nexus One, Android an' Droid Tips 2Day: Status Icon Meanings

androidn'droidstatus.jpgOn the very top or your Nexus One, Droid, Droid Eris
and/or other model Android phone is a bar showing the Notifications and
Connection Status Icons. So what do
all those notification icons on the top mean? The is the second half of icons, we explained all the network status icons in an article yesterday.

Some of the icons are fairly easy to guess what they mean such as the symbol for a USB connection, but some of the others are, well, they are kind of obtuse.

nexusonelist1.jpgThe M on the envelopes shows new GMail messages. the smiling speech bubble means there is a new text or multimedia message.  The exclamation point in the speech bubble call-out shows that there is problem with the delivery of a text or mms. The workd talk is a speech bubble means there is a new Google Talk message. A square cassette symbol, means there is a new voicemail message.  A number on the calendar shows an upcoming event. Arrows in a circle indicate that data is syncing. An exclamation point in a triangle show that there is problem with sign-in or sync. An exclamation point on a hard drive means the microSD card is full. A Wi-Fi symbol with a question marks shows that a Wi-Fi network is available,  The USB symbols means that the phone is connected with a USB cable. The symbol that looks like the play button on a CD player indicates that a song is playing.

A number with plus behind it indicates the number of notifications not display.  A phone handset in green means there is call in progress, if it is blue, then a Bluetooth headset call in in progress.  A jumping arrow over a red phone handset indicates a missed call. An orange icon with a handset with a pause button means a call is on hold.  A blue icon with a white phone handset with an arrows shows call forwarding is on.  A white up arrow shows data is uploading while a down arrow shows data is downloading, when a check appears the download is finished. A white key on a black background means the phone is connected to a Virtual Private Network when the key goes gray, it is disconnected.

After a while you should be able to recognize what they mean. You can also "pull down" the status nofications page where the icons are defined.
