Verizon has waived all long-distance usage charges forc alls from its
residential landline and Verizon Wireless phones to Chile, from Feb. 26
through Mar. 6. All the carriers Sprint, T-Mobile AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon will not charge for text message donations.
You can send money to Chilean earthquake relief
efforts via text on mobile phones:
- Make a $10 donation to Habitat for
Humanity, text the word "CHILE" to 25383; - Make a $10 donation to
World Vision, text the word "CHILE" to 20222. - Text "CHILE" to 52000 to donate $10 to the Salvation Army in Latin America.
- Text the word "CHILE" to 90999 to donate $10 on behalf of the American Red Cross.
- Text "REBUILD" to 50555 to donate $10 to Operation USA.
- Text "YOUTH" to 20222 to donate $10 to UNICEF.
NOTE: We previously mistakenly posted that T-Mobile was not charging long distance for calls to Chile. We were incorrect and apologize. The story was posted on the weekend when T-Mobile could not be reached.
Customers will receive a
text response to confirm the $10 donation, and 100 percent of
customers' donations will go directly to the relief organization's
efforts to help the victims of the Chilean earthquake. Additional
international relief organizations are expected to begin mobile giving
campaigns soon.
Carriers do not charge for the text
messages. Customers will not be charged for the text messages, and the
$10 donation will appear on their regular monthly bills.
