Google has reduced their “fee” for T-Mobile customers who leave their T-Mobile contract early from $350 to $150 which was on top of the T-Mobile $200 early termination fee (ETF) for the Nexus One superphone. Hopefully fewer Nexus One owners will leave their contracts because now they can call a toll-free human-answered telephone support line.
Google’s terms of sale, for the Nexus One now state customers who cancel their Nexus One contract within 120 days of purchase will have to pay a $150 equipment recovery fee” Previously, the fee which they call an “equipment recovery fee” was $350.
This follows an inquiry by the FCC about early termination fees which keep going up for some smartphones. Verizon last year, upped its ETF to $350 to prevent buy-one-get free sellers of smartphones from profiting from cancelling contracts early and the profiting from selling the free phone.
