Verizon has updated their BlackBerry Tour support page with information about the update to BlackBerry 0S 5 for the BlackBerry Tour. As we reported yesterday, the update is expected to roll-out Over-the-Air at midnight tonight. You will need the update if you want to add Push-to-Talk services to your BlackBerry Tour.
Verizon claims that the Research In Motion 5.0.0 release 1002 (platform 4.2.0.272/applications 5.0.0.591) update will make using your BlackBerry Tour even more enjoyable.
BlackBerry OS 5.0 offers BlackBerry Tour users some new features
and improvements including a smoother camera, better Bluetooth, improved
voice dialing, updated Call Waiting caller ID, improved SMS and
compatibility with Push-to-Talk software.
Enhancements also include:
- Basic operations
? Improved operation during charging. - Simplified key-lock functionality. A password is no longer needed
unless a security timeout has occurred. - Improved GPS connectivity when using third-party mapping applications.
- Push to Talk-capable.
Please note the following when choosing the OTA method:
If you download the software upgrade over the air while traveling outside the National Enhanced Services Coverage Area and do not have an unlimited monthly kilobyte allowance, any kilobytes sent or received during the download will deduct from your monthly kilobyte allowance or be charged at the appropriate per-kilobyte rate
The software update is 45 MB.
Download time is typically 10 - 20 minutes (dependent on network conditions).
Upgrade time can range from 25 minutes to 2 hours (dependent on the amount of user data on the device
