Reviews of the Motorola Backflip range in adjectives from weird, to innovative and striking. The best-reviewed features of the Motorola Blackflip are the innovative back-flipping keyboard and trackpad on the back of the screen, a 5 megapixel camera (good enough for OCR functions) and the super-social networking combined unified messaging/updates of MOTOBLUR.

The Motorola Backflip runs Android 1.5 which will updated to the super-slick Android 2.1 with voice to text form filling andvoice navigation.  The processor was called sluggish by some reviewers.

The reviewers think that the Backflip will appeal to social-networkers who want all their information easily processed and need a keyboard for texting and Twitter/Facebook updates.

backflip.jpgBonnie Cha at CNET rated the Motorola Blackflip 3.5 out of 5 for the new design with the trackpad behind (Baktrack) the screen, 5 megapixel camera and full wireless services.  She didn't like that it was sluggish at times, the older 1.5 Android Operating system and small 3.1 inch (320 ×480) screen size.  She see's it as an upgrade to a feature phone but not a super-duper smartphone. When closed, the keyboard is on the back of the phone which swings open under the screen. The keyboard is good and worked well were springy and could be little more spacious.   MOTOBLUR combines email, and social networking into one place and widgets that are a great resource. The photo quality was hazy. Call quality was mixed.

Sascha Segan at PCMag rated the Motorola BlackFlip 2 out 5, he did not flp over the Blackflip.   He called it weird, abomination of design and bloated. The voice quality is mediocre, the chipset is the same as the T-Mobile G1 and sluggish. He did however like MOTOBLUR with its universal inbox. Music plays fine but YouTube videos are low-res. He suggests to wait for another Android phone from AT&T or get an iPhone.

Vincent Nguyen at Slash Gear and noticed that because the keys are exposed they are not as comfortable as protected keys. Because it requires at two-year contract, he thinks it's not fast enough to last two years. The noise cancellation works well. The camera is better thena the Devour and has an edge over the Droid and good enough for OCR scanning of text for scanning services like Evernote.

Victor Godinez at the Dallas Morning News called the Backflip nifty, striking and innovative. He notes that the users will know if it is right if they need the super-social-networking MOTOBLUR.   It's not for hackers and geeks. "But if you want
your phone to primarily be an extension of your Facebook lifestyle, the Backflip is a solid choice."
