We reported earlier that Windows Mobile users would not be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 7, now we know the real reason. Windows Phone is a complete overhaul and a new phone operating system. Apps created for Windows Mobile will not work on Windows Phone.
In a blog entry, Microsoft's Charlie Kindle, Partner Group Program Manager for the Windows Phone Application Platform & Developer Experience, noted that Windows Phone 7 Series is different from "what we've done in the phone space before and it's different from other phones..The Windows Phone 7 Series developer platform is as different as the new user experience. It's fresh. It's pure. And it's powerful."
The development Windows Phone 7 developer experience builds upon
- .NET
- Silverlight
- XNA platform
- Microsoft's developer tools.
- Web 2.0 standards.
