Twitter will be releasing their own official Twitter app for Android, at some point in the future.

Twitter's co-founder Evan
Williams, talked about the project during the Chirp Conference in San Francisco. "We did the research; we were underserving users," Williams said. "We had to have a core application just like we did on the web."

Twitter purchased the iPhone app company Tweetie, showing their iPhone commitment. Last week, RIM released an official Beta version of their BlackBerry Twitter app. Twitter also announced their first advertising with Promoted Tweets.

There are currently many Android apps for Twitter, the first and the best came from Shaun Kelly at Loquacious apps, a new improved version is available in beta with:

  • Big, readable tweet list. No space wasted on tabs, text
    entry, or menus. Yes!
  • Multiple users support.
  • Search. By location, trends, #channels from the context
    menu.
  • Conversation view to get the whole back story.
  • Background notifications for @mentions and DMs.
  • Upload images and video from TwitPic, yFrog, img.ly,
    Posterous...
  • @reply, DM, retweet, URL shorten... Duh, we've got that.
  • Source filters, user filters. Because sometimes you don't
    want to read every. single. post.
