Apple Buys iPhone Personal Virtual Assistant App-Maker Siri

mzl.mgculvvh.320x480-75.jpgAccording to recent FCC filings, Apple is acquiring voice search app maker Siri.  Like Android’s voice search, Siri  dose voice search which they claim acts a “Personal Virtual Assistant” learning what users need along the way.

Siri understands what you say,accomplishes tasks for you and adapts to your preferences over time.Siri can help you find and plan things to do. You can ask Siri to find a romantic place for dinner, tell you what’s playing at a localjazz club or get tickets to a movie for Saturday night.

Siri does occasionally misunderstand things you ask it to do even within its range of understanding.In fact, right now, Siri’s learning how to handle reminders, flights stats and reference questions, taking it into the realm of Artificial Intelligence.

Their website states “Our vision is that, over time, you’ll trust Siri to manage many personal details in your life - from recommending a wine you might enjoyto managing your to do list.:

Siri pulls information from Yahoo Local, Yelp, Flightsats, WeatherBug, and others.  Siri was slected most Innovative Web Technology in the Microsoft BizSpark Acceleratorcontest. The Siri iPhone app is free.

Apple also recently bought mobile app developer Labpixies and chip-maker Agnilux.
