Viral videos of the Droid from Verizon Wireless range from silly to objectionable.
Yes, the Droid is a good phone with lots of good reviews. The latest update of the Droid to Android 2.1 makes it powerful with text to speech form filling. There are a ton of great apps for the Droid by Motorola. BUT Droid can't do what it does in the YouTube videos on the DROIDshortcuts channel.
The viral video on YouTube "Secret Droid Unlock Code -Underwear Analyzer" is not only tasteless but inaccurate. Look at the bar scene, where a young female bartender is scanned to reveal her bra size with the Underwear Analyzer on a Droid smartphone. The Droid blurts 36C. Real woman who have worked in retail know that that bartender is no way a 36C, she looks to be around 100 pounds and is most likely is a 34B or C. If she is wearing a 36C is does not fit properly and it is very loose in the back. The Droid not only does not detect bra sizes--- it's the wrong bra size!
Is she or isn't she wearing underwear? The detector says no. Who
cares...
We women at Wireless and Mobile News do not find this
amusing, funny, or enlightening. We believe in rating phones by their
merit and technical specifications. Many women have been promoting the
super smartphone from Verizon (with offers of buying one Droid and
getting another
free with acontract), maybe they should tell the viral video maker
to shut off his lens when it comes to to scanning women's bodies. In
fact, the Droid does do photos but does not do scanning.
Fortunately for Verizon, there was another mobile
app that is even more abhorrent than this faux-app and that was the Pepsi
Amped-UP Score
app that was pulled by objections from women. The app was supposed
to be the "road map to success with your favorite kinds of women."
