Review HTC HD2 (T-Mobile) Review of Reviews

HTC HD2 Rated 4 out 5 by Wireless and Mobile News Review of Reviews

HTC-HD2swimmercomingout.jpgThe HTC HD2 is sold-out in various venues in the U.S. and in Europe, the reviews we've reviewed show why. Reviews refer to the large 4.3 inch AMOLED touchscreen (larger than the iPhone) showing video as absolutely gorgeous.  The camera takes great photos. The HTC Sense UI is user-friendly and combines contacts. The onscreen keyboard with Swype is spacious and easy to use. Browsing is delightful with pinch to zoom. The processor is super fast making the HTC HD2 the best smartphone T-Mobile has to offer.

So what's the glitch?  The operating system Windows Mobile 6.5 is sort of clunky and old-fashioned and will not be upgraded to the next Windows OS. HTC Sense helps take care of most the OS issues but when you get into the menus and installing software it gets clunky and confusing like most Windows OS.

One review calls the HTC HD2 frozen in time, because developers won't be making apps for it any more.  The ability to watch video via Blockbuster on demand is very compelling. Right now you can only download full length movies, via Wi-Fi because the T-Mobile network will be too slow until later this year.

The HTC HD2 has HD in it name, it even comes with a free Transformers movie preloaded. In person, the HTC HD2 looks huge compared to other smartphones and is light in the hands. Video viewing is spectacular, a feature that will be coming to more smarphones later this year including the HTC EVO 4G.

If you're contract is up and you want your video now, the HTC HD2 may transform your smarphone experience.  The HTC HD2 sells for $199 from T-Mobile with a two year contract and rebates.  As of yesterday, it was sold-out again in many T-Mobile stores.Wirefly is still selling the HTC HD2 at a price "too low to show," with free shipping.

Jamie Lendino at PCMAG rated the HTC HD2 4 out of 5, if you can forget about the non-upgradable OS, they “you’ll find a gorgeous,
spectacularly powerful smartphone for business and for pleasure.”
He named it PCMAG Editor’s Choice for T-Mobile smartphones, He loved the screen and found the onscreen keyboard easy to use.  Call quality was clear, with average reception. HTC Sense is fast, but installing programs was pain. Contact coordinating is good with push email. “When you click over onto
someone’s contact card, you can see the conversations you’ve had with
them recently. “
The Opera browser was a pleasure with pinch to zoom. You get GoGo inflight access for free for 6 months. The Transformers looked gorgeous. The audio and camera worked well. Because Microsoft is changing its operating and is not upgrading phones, the HTC HD2 is frozen in time in regards to apps.

Brier Dudley at the Seattle Times offers a different perspective on the HTC HD2 noting all the new smartphones coming out that will have screens as large with added features such as the Sprint’s HTC EVO (4G) phone that looks very much like it and the Samsung Galaxy S, which will also play 720 p video. If video is your passion, you may want to wait, you can’t download videos over the T-Mobile 3G network, you have to use Wi-Fi. He found the call quality good and noted that Apple tried to keep it out of the country, because the screen is bigger than the iPhone. He found the interface attractive.
