Sprint has released the update for the HTC Hero to Android 2.1. They are not pushing it out over the air, therefore, if you are an HTC Hero owner, you will need to check for yourself.
Before
you start the download, make sure, that you back up your data, your battery is fully charge, you close all apps and that use the USB data cable that came with your HTC Hero. You have to have
installed HTC Sync on your computer available at HTC's
support site
You will have to reinstall all of your apps but this update gives you a lot of power including syncing of Google Maps, Google Navigator, Universal Search and voice to text for filling forms.
Other features include:
- Sync support for contacts from
multiple data sources including Exchange. - Support
for built-in flash. - Improved Android keyboard layout and
responsiveness. - Support for double-tap
zoom. - Ability to search MMS and SMS messages.
- Auto-delete
of older messages when short on storage.
The update fixes issues with keypad backlighting and Bluetooth, as well as increases speed, adds new camera features and revamps the graphics for improved performance.
They do warn thate: Installing the 2.27.651.5 update will
delete all the data
and information on your phone. You will lose contacts that have not
been synced to an email account, text messages that have not been
forwarded, saved voicemail messages older than 5 days, voicemails older
than 20 days that have not been listened to, and call history. The
calendar and email settings will also revert back to factory defaults.
Pictures, music, videos and files are stored on your microSD memory
card, which should be removed before updating your phone.
