U.S. Cellular today posted on their Facebook
wall that they will be launching their own full-QWERTY
Android smartphone in July: the Samsung Acclaim which looks like the LG Ally sot-of.
Their Android smartphone, the Samsung Acclaim(R880) features Android 2.1 and a 3.2" HVGA screen. Android 2.1 brings with it more advanced Android features with a pinch zoom for
photo album, voice to text form filling and Google's navigation service, that
gives spoken turn-by-turn directions, formerly only found on the
Droid by Motorola and Nexus One.
The LG Ally although made by another manufacturer has a 3.2" Touchcsreen and has slide-out QWERTY keyborad it also runs Android 2.1. It has a camera on the back and a microSD card slot. The LG Ally will be available on May 20. Other features of the LG Ally include GPS Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
The LG Ally is heavily promoted with Iron Man 2 contests, comic books, apps and a microsite.
Some bloggers compare the Samsung Acclaim to the Samsung Moment, the first smartphone with Digital TV.
Android is surely the wave of the smartphone future it recently over-took iPhone as the number two U.S. smartphone.
Popular Android smartphones include the Droid Incredible, Google Nexus One, BlackFlip, Motorola Devour and soon to be released HTC EVO 4G.
