BlackBerry users may be able to save on their data plans with the new A&T data pricing options, notes RIM.
"AT&T's strategic pricing move is great news for BlackBerry
smartphone customers," said Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO, Research In Motion.
BlackBerry users typically use less data than other smartphones. The BlackBerry platform is more efficient than other mobile platforms.
Morgan Keegan reported, "We expect other wireless carriers to follow suit, and for this new
pricing to substantially increase adoption of smartphones as the "data
pricing" hurdle has just been cut by 50%. Secondly, we expect this to
disproportionately help RIM as BlackBerries can send 5x the number of
emails as other smartphones using the same bandwidth and browse 3x as
many websites due to RIM's proprietary compression algorithms and
back-end network architecture."
Consumer Reports reported BlackBerry
consumers use about
54 MB of (compressed/optimized) data per month on average (compared to
data usage averages that are 3-5 times higher for other brands), which
suggests that the large majority of BlackBerry consumers will now
qualify to use the $15/month data plan.
iPhone users consume 273 MBs of data per month, compared to 150 MBs for
consumers who use other of smar phones, the Validas study found.
Another 12 percent of iPhone users use at least 500 MBs
about a third of those s use more than 1 GB of data.
We will look into ways of saving data in future articles for our AT&T customer readers.
