CTIA and the wireless industry are very
disappointed that the San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved
the so-called 'Cell Phone Right-to-Know' ordinance. They don't like having to label cell phones with radiation, therefore they are pulling their trade show out of San Francisco in the future.
"While we have enjoyed bringing our three day fall
show to San Francisco five times in the last seven years, which has
meant we've brought more than 68,000 exhibitors and attendees and had an
economic impact of almost $80 million to the Bay Area economy, the
Board of Supervisors' action has led us to decide to relocate our show.
We are disappointed to announce that the 2010 CTIA Enterprise and
Applications show in October will be the last one we have in San
Francisco for the foreseeable future. We have already been contacted by
several other cities that are eager to work with us and understand the
tremendous benefits that wireless technology and our show can provide
their area."
The Environmental Working Group, notes that studies
find significantly higher risks for brain and
salivary
gland tumors among people using cell phones for 10 years or longer. EWG
has created this user-friendly interactive online guide to cell
phone emissions, covering over 1,000 phones currently on the market.
For some models, like Motorola's
Droid, Blackberry
Bold 9700, LG
Chocolate Touch and HTC
Nexus One by Google, consumers pay a hidden price: exposure to the
highest legal levels of cell phone radiation. You can see for
yourself by looking the EWG radiation
levels for new 2010 cell phones.
