AT&T "plans to make its mark in media tablets," and will support multiple tablet platforms for data deliver to them.
The iPad has been a major success for them and their president of emerging devices is saying that AT&T will expand its selection of media tablets even it if is at the expense of netbooks, e-book readers and other connective devices. AT&T wants to be sure its network supports as many tablets as possible to meet customer demand.
According to an interview in Investor's Business Daily, Glenn Lurie, president of AT&T's emerging devices unit, says that that AT&T is working with a wide range of tablet producers,
including startup OpenPeak. OpenPeak and AT&T plan to bring the OpenTablet to market this year.
"They are a close partner," Lurie said of OpenPeak. "They're in an
exclusive relationship with us. We're definitely digging in with
them."We've also got very strong
relationships with Dell, HP and RIM . We're working with anybody and
everybody that is building or talking about a tablet device."
AT&T makes data possible for many netbooks, and e-Readers such as
the Kindle, Barnes and Nobile and Sony. However, because media tablets
can do more, they may cut into the sales of e-readers, GPS devices, and
other devices.
Hewlett-Packard will release a tablet running on Palm's
webOS platform, next year. RIM is also supposed to working on a tablet
called the "BlackPad" to be released this year. The Dell Streak a 5 inch
touchscreen Android tablet with a phone inside was just recently
