Droid2-R2-D2.jpgAndroid spies have found an internal Verizon blog entry that shows an August 12 release date of the Droid 2.  The Droid 2 specs are as expected, Android 2.2 FroYo, 1GHz processor, 8GB onboard memory,  an 8GB microSD  and pre-installed with  Verizon apps,
Skype Mobile, NFL Mobile, City ID and 3G Mobile Hotspot.

UPDATE 8/10/10:  The Droid 2 has been officially announced and will be available for pre-sale 8/11 on the Verizon website. A nice added bonus is that Verizon customers with contracts ending any time before 12/31/2010 are eligible for an upgrade without penalty. Better get your
mouses running to Verizon website at the break of August 11.

Other features we found in the leaked manual were more MOTOBLUR social networking features, BlockBuster Video, DLNA, and photo sharing features along with SWYPE 

The major feature of the Droid 2 smarpthone is the QWERTY Keyboard, the touchscreen is 3.6 inches and smaller than the DROID X'S  4.3 inch screen. The
keyboard is wide and the directional pad was changed so that you have
the four arrows and easier to type on than the original Droid. The classic Droid is being updated to Android 2.2 but it can not tether as a modem or be used as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.

Expected colors include, Chrome, Dark Blue and White with the white Droid 2 embellished with RD-D2.

The last two Droid smartphones from Verizon sold-out around the first day of sale, then customers had to wait for their Droid Incredible or Droid X to ship. We found some great ways to get to your Droid 2 on the first day of sale that we learned from the Droid X launch.
