Droid Classic Official Update to Android 2.2 Pushing out to Upgrade Droids

Droid2.2Update.JPGAfter a soft and slow release starting on August 2, Verizon is pushing out an update to upgrade to  Android 2.2 for Droid by Motorola.  Some users will be disappointed that the update does not support Wi-Fi hotspots or use as tethered modem, but the other features in the update are desirable and worth the download and down time.

FroYo  Android 2.2 is
faster than previous versions of Android
(faster than iPad too) and has close to twenty
improvements
that include
supporting Adobe Flash 10.1, MS Exchange

support, and a uniifed email inbox.  FroYo  Android 2.2 offers multiple e-mail account
support, camera improvements, a better
browser, and a re-designed calendar.
A major improvement is the
ability to store apps on the microSD card, allowing for more space for
apps. You can also voice dial from a Bluetooth headset.

A full list of improvements follow.  Today is a very Droid day, because the new sibling to the Droid by Motorola, the Droid 2 goes on pre-sale today on the Verizon website.  The new improved Droid 2 has an enhanced keyboard, faster processor and comes pre-loaded with Android 2.2  Droid 2 users can buy mobile 3G hotspot service starting at $20 a month.
Note the Verizon support page warns "The "Install now" and "Restart & install"
options will not be available if your device does not have enough power
availability. The system update requires 40% or more power availability
