Starting today, Gmail account holders can receive or place Google Voice calls from their computers. Originally Google Voice was launched to help users manage communications and
make and receive calls on existing phones. But what if people don't have a phone
with them, are not in a reception area or are out of town? Then this service comes in handy for those with computer and an Internet connection. To get started, users check the box next to Google Chat in your list of forwarding phones and the next time someone calls the Google Voice number, Gmail will notify the user of an incoming call. Users can take the call or even listen in as the caller leaves a message.
All calls made from Gmail will display the Google Voice phone number as the outbound caller ID and all international calls will use Google Voice calling credit and are offered Google Voice rates.
The service is rolling out to Gmail customers over the next few days. Chat must be installed with the voice and video plugin. For more information got to gmail.com/call.
