Huawei announced the the IDEOS, an "affordable" Android
2.2 (Froyo) smartphone. The IDEOS has a 2.8-inch touchscreen (320 x 240), 528 MHz processor, 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera., GPS and Bluetooth.
The ergonomically designed IDEOS offers
WCDMA + Wi-Fi network support. The built-in Wi-Fi router allows for up to
eight devices connected to the Wi-Fi hotspot at a time. The best feature is that its standout is HSDPA at 14.4M bps.
Available in black, yellow, blue, and purple, the IDEOS, with Android
2.2 pre-installed, supports voice dialing, voice navigation, and runs apps from the microSD card.
The IDEOS smartphone is priced between US$100
and US$200, depending on the market. IDEOS will be released in a number of
countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America and Latin America. It is expected to shipped in October.
Today, Huawei also announced three more Android-powered smartphones.
The U8800 is powered by Android 2.2 and integrates HSPA+ capabilities
to support downlink speeds of up to 14 Mb/s. This smartphone features a 3.8-inch wide screen. The
U8800 can also be used as a 3G modem and as a WiFi router for up to
eight devices.
The U8500 has a sleek, futuristic design with a 3.2-inch touch
screen and an optical track-pad designed for
Android 2.1. Equipped with HSDPA and WiFi capabilities, this phone can
also function as a 3G modem.
This entry-level U8300 smartphone was designed with the needs of young,
mobile users in mind. This smartphone combines a QWERTY keyboard and a
touchscreen in a small, chocolate-bar inspired package. Powered by
Android 2.1, it comes with the most popular social networking
applications pre-installed.
