Exclusive: Friendly Clearwire WiMAX Already in Los Angeles Metro?

clearwire.jpgWe know that Clearwire is going to deploy WiMAX in Los Angeles very soon.  The first sign was that a Clearwire rep was in our local supermarket selling Clearwire WiMAX services.

Independent reps started selling Clearwire on September 1 and have been promoting it at county fairs, expos and at kiosks.  They are discounting the service and showing coverage areas in a flyer.  The coverage of Los Angeles and surrounding counties is very extensive (click on the map to zoom in.)

The rep told Wireless and Mobile News that Clearwire is deploying 12 towers a day and that there will be 1200 in Los Angeles County by the end of the year. He implied that as the towers are deployed, 4G speed is reached by users covered by those towers. Clearwire is expected to officially launch WiMAX in Los Angeles in January.

The current claim on the flyer is "Nationwide 3G coverage now, and be ready for superfast 4G across Los Angeles."

Discounts are highest for those signing up for a two-year contract.
