Last week we learned that there would be an update to fix Samsung Epic 4G 3G 'issues." Today, through a forum post, it was revealed that Sprint will be pushing out an Over-the-Air (OTA) update for Samsung Epic 4G tomorrow, September 30.
Update 09/30/10 - A
Sprint forum admin confirmed that Sprint will started rolling out an
update, September, 30 that fixes the 3G issue along with other issues.
Some Sprint Forum members have been complaining of battery issues, GPS problems and that the data upload speed capped at 150 kps using 3G. Some are discussing returning their Samsung Epic 4G within their 30-day return option.
A Sprint Samsung Epic 4G forum administrator revealed the following today:
"Good news - an update will be released tomorrow 9/30. It will be rolled out over a 4- day period so not everyone will get it on day 1. I will have the standard MR information (fixes included, rollout schedule, etc) available tomorrow morning and will post it in a new featured thread."
He later confirmed:
"The 3G upload issue is definitely in the release.
I doubt that it fixes the GPS issue since I just forwarded input from this forum over to engineering for further analysis."
Sprint issued a statement last week, confirming that there would be a 3G fix in the update. This upgrade follows a major update with Samsung Media Hub on September 16.
AT&T issued an update last week that the GPS issues regarding their Samsung Galaxy S phone, the Samsung Captivate, had been fixed.
The Samsung Epic 4G received excellent reviews and is the only Samsung Galaxy S smartphone to have full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Epic has a front-facing camera for video conferencing and uses Sprint's 4G data network for faster data streams. It also has a camera flash and mobile Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities (unlimited for $29.99 a month). 4G connectivity to WiMAX comes from a ANADIGICS AWT6264 chipset.
All Samsung Galaxy S phones have a super-fast 1GHz hummingbird processor with efficient 3D graphics processing, Super AMOLED 4-inch touchsreen, 5 megapixel camera, microSD, Wi-Fi, and Android 2.1. The differences are in the amount of memory, keyboards and carriers.
Samsung Electronics expects to sell up to 25 million smartphones by the close of 2010. They have already shipped 1 million Samsung Galaxy S phones to the United States.
