Today is Android update day.  Along with the Droid X and the HTC Evo 4G, the Galaxy S Samsung Captivate is getting an update.

It's not an update to Android 2.2 Froyo or Samsung Media Hub, like the Samsung Epic 4G received last week.  But the update does deliver GPS and MS Exchange fixes.

Here's what Samsung's Tracy Calabrese sent us:

"Samsung Mobile and AT&T are pleased to announce an update for the Samsung Captivate.  Below is Samsung Mobile's official statement regarding the Over-the-Air update.

An update to improve the Samsung Captivate's GPS performance is now available.  Captivate customers will receive a notification on their device that an update is available and will simply need to download the file to update their phone.

The updates will be pushed to customers' devices over the next few weeks.

The update for the Captivate will also improve additional device functions, such as media scanning time and the full version of Quickoffice, and it will address Microsoft Exchange 2003 policy support."

Reviewers have called the Samsung Captivate the best Android smartphone with social networking that is better than the iPhone.  It does not have a camera flash, mobile hotspot or a microSD included.  The Samsung Captivate is heavily discounted (below $50) at the Amazon Wireless Beta website and at Wirefly.

Samsung Electronics expects to sell up to 25 million smartphones by the close of 2010.  They have already shipped 1 million Samsung Galaxy S phones to the United States.

Many of the Samsung Galaxy S phones were named in Wireless and Mobile News' Review of Reviews Top Ten Best Android an' Droid Phones Now an' Later.
