Before starting any Android update, make sure you have at least 40% battery life and that you backup your data. You will not be able to make or receive phone calls during the update. The Android G2 will reboot. It also helps if you have a clear signal or are connect to Wi-Fi.
A T-Mobile Forum Member posted these suggestions before the update:
Here's some advice to make the Froyo update go a bit more smoothly:
- BACKUP everything now! You may need to do a factory reset after the update to get everything working correctly.
- Even if it does update cleanly, it's probably a good idea to do a factory reset anyway to start with a clean slate.
- Backup SMS with the app smsbackup. Backup the app .apk files to your SD card with a file manager app like ASTRO.
- Save your files, pics, movies, etc on the SD card to your computer.
- Do a manual data sync to make sure gmail, contacts, & Calendar are backed-up on google servers.
- Backup browser bookmarks with the app bookmarks save & restore (optional)
- There are backup apps in the market to save settings etc.
- Backup anything else you want to keep!
T-Mobile also is sending out an interim "glitch-fix" update for the T-Mobile G2.
